Our story

Marlborough Handcraft knives are handmade by Jesse Killion. Using a combination of natural and synthetic materials, each knife is crafted with both form and function in mind. The end result is an exquisite, durable piece of cutlery suitable for everyday use, that you, your children, and grandchildren will be proud to own.

Marlborough Handcraft knives are crafted in Green Lane, Pennsylvania, in the barn and basement workshop of the century-old farmhouse where Jesse lives with his wife and two children.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Using quality materials, skilled hands, and subtle design, we create high-end cutlery for the working man or woman.

THE PROCESS

Each knife begins as a simple block of steel.

The steel is hand-forged by heating and hammering it to shape, paying special attention even at this early stage to comfort and performance.

Next, the forged steel is ground to shape. During this process, the overall shape is further defined, and the spine and edge of the knife are refined to perfect its final usability.

The knife is then heat treated by bringing it to the critical temperature for the specific steel, quenching it in oil to harden it, and tempering it in the oven.

Following the heat treating process, the geometry of the knife as it relates to cutting performance is created by grinding the bevels. At this point, the handle is designed and crafted using a variety of stabilized woods and synthetic materials.

To finish the knife, the bevels are polished, the blade is etched, the handle adhered to the knife, and the final cutting edge applied. Finally, the knife is oiled and waxed, and ready to be put to work.
